Light up Snowman........

Hi Peeps,

I know I can hear you saying it, she leaves it two years and seven months and then blogs two days in a row?!?!

I went out with my lovely sister today and we went to Tenterden to do some Christmas shopping. There were lots of lovely christmassy things in the shops and it got me thinking of some of the light up makes that I made last year that I will have to dust off when I get them down from the loft when I put my decs up this year.

Below is an Anna Marie Designs mdf Snowman that she sold in bare mdf last year and I just loved him when I saw him and had to make one. I love Anna's Designs and love putting my own twist on her mdf designs.

I used lots of different products including Structure Paste, Starlight Paints, Acrylic Paints and Blanc Rusty Patina.

I added other mdf elements to the snowman including a fence, trees, robin and December 24th. These were also mdf pieces from Anna Marie Designs.

I added some little snowballs to the base and holly and berries to finish it off.......

Once I had made him and nick named him 'Frosty' (original yes I know!) I decided to add some lights around the outside of him to light up the lounge when I cosy up on the couch at Christmas.......

I was really pleased how he turned out and Frosty will be a keen favourite in my lounge for many years.

Well peeps, you never know I just may be back tomorrow with another light up make........

It's been a long time........

Good evening all,

Well I can't believe that it has been 2 years and seven months since I have dedicated anytime to this blog.
I had all good intentions when I created this blog but you know how it goes, but I have decided that now is the time to share with you some of my thoughts, processes and tutorials and techniques on what has taken up my time in the last few years.

If you are a real crafter at heart you know that it feels like you have lost an arm if you don't get to indulge into your passion of crafting at least a couple of times a week. But sometimes life gets in the way and for the past few years although I have been busy crafting for work and although I have loved every minute it has been full on and not much breathing space in between but I have decided this year to indulge a little more into what I love to do and take a back step and slow things down a little so that I can spend time on this blog and share things with you all.

Next year we are getting much more into mixed media which is my passion, I love playing and discovering new things and love to share with others.

So today as we are looming up towards my workshop on Sunday with the light up scene box, details here: Click for details and booking information. 

I thought that I would show you a make that I made for my own home last year for Christmas.
I bought the lantern from a local florist wholesalers and immediately when I saw it, I thought that I wanted to create a scene inside it, it was such a lovely shape lantern.

Now I had a look at my stash and found that I had some Tando Houses ( available on sunday at my Workshop at Grove Green Village Hall). Various dies and die cut grey board Christmas shapes, so this got the old brain matter working and I started to devise a plan.......

I started by by gluing the houses together and painting them with Imagination Crafts Blanc Rusty Patina ( available on my website) and then added some clear glamour dust on top to add a sparkle.

 

Then I painted the roofs and windows and doors in Deco Art Baby Blue Paint ( available on my website) and assembled the pieces together.

Now I knew that I wanted to light up the inside of the feature, so I had to create a base and flap front that I could access the switch on the lights from. So I cut a piece of card to fit in the base and used the lantern as a template to draw around to create the semi circle that I attached as a flap.

Now it is at this point that I got very carried away and forgot to take any photos as I continued with the project but I used dies from my stash to create trees and dear and built up a raised area from card to support a third house in the background.

 I aged down the lantern itself with a little dry brushing with white acrylic paint and added a Tando Creative bauble flourish and some flower gems to the front of the lantern.

I was really pleased with the outcome and tucked up on a wintery night with a cup of cocoa I was pretty pleased with the night time effect!

Technique Tuesday - Reversed, Resisted Glazed Tile......

How are we all today out in the crafty world?

Three weeks on the trot ehh but will it last....I hope so....

 

I thought I would show you a little technique that I discovered a little while back whilst playing around with three of my favourite things....stencils. inks and embossing powders.....

 

   I like to use to reverse a negative stencil image and then make it look like a glazed tile.

I have used one of my favourite IndigoBlu stamps the honeycomb background and an IndigoBlu stencil called daisy border to create the tile......

 

Here’s how it was done……..

 

I first cut myself a 5″ square of super smooth card stock. I inked up the honeycomb stamp with some Antique Linen distress ink and stamped across the centre of the card…..

 

Then using a blending tool I added Antique Linen Distress ink around the edges of the card…..I then laid the stencil over the piece of card, lining it up with the bottom and taped it to my mat. Then take a clear emboss pad or versamark ink and cake the ink direct from the pad over the exposed card areas, making sure that you cover all the areas…..

 

Next take some clear embossing powder, I used Wow superfine clear powder (my favourite) ,

remove the stencil and then add the powder generously and knock off the excess as shown below…..

 

Heat the powder to create a shiny resist on the background, you can just about see it below…..

I then took a Bundled Sage Distress Ink and inked in the exposed areas of the background to highlight the stencil shape and form……

 

It is a good idea at this point to lay the stencil in front of you to get an idea of the design on the stencil properly before adding more detail……

 

 

I then started adding more colour with Distress Inks, starting with Mustard Seed using a small piece of cut'n'dry foam to apply it through the resisted background taking care to wipe off any excess ink with kitchen roll…..

 

I then added some Dried Marigold and finally Tumbled Glass to the butterfly and base….

.

Play around with the inks until you get your desired effect…..

 

Then to capture the colour and seal it in to the tile, again cake the whole piece of card with the clear emboss pad or Versamark and add  clear embossing powder on top as below….

 

Heat set with your heat gun and then repeat the process again until you get a beautiful liquid shine!

 

A little closer look at the shine on it…….

 

I then matted and layered it on to orange and cream card……

 

And there we have it, let me know what you think and why not have a go yourself, it is a great technique with lovely results!

Jofy Clock Canvas.......

Good morning all,

How are we all today? 

I thought that I would show you a make that I did a couple of months ago using jofy stamps.......

 

I really love Jo Firth-Young's stamps and love playing around with them when I get the chance.

This make was actually at one of my lovely friends, Karen Clare's clock workshops and we were meant to just be making clocks but me being me, I took along a canvas and everything but the kitchen sink!!!!

Karen, being Karen never minds if I just get on and do my own thing as I just don't get time to play enough......

So I ended up making this canvas which combined the clock within it and then did a page in my mini journal to remind myself of the make......

 

So let's take a look......

 

 

Here is a closer look at some of the details......

 

 

I used my Brushos and acrylic paints on the background......

 

 

The flowers were stamped on Teresa Collins paper pad and cut out......

I really love playing around with this kinda thing but just don't get enough time to play!!!

Technique Tuesday.....Painted Tag......

Now I know it is a New Year and all that and we all have such great New Year resolutions but I would like to try to do a Technique Tuesday on this blog each week and try to keep it up....time permitting!!!!

 

So I thought that I would show you a little tag that I made a little while ago using acrylic paints.......

 

So here goes......

 

 

Start off with a kraft tag and using the white gesso either paint or brayer the tag so that it is totally covered and then leave to dry…..

 

 

Next using a small amount of blue paint, I used Townhouse Teal Paint from IndigoBlu on a craft mat, roll a small brayer in to the paint coating the brayer. Then with a flicking action roll over the white tag going in different directions until it is three quarters covered but you can still see some white paint so that it looks distressed and then leave to dry…..

 

 

Next take a small amount of white paint on to your craft mat and roller out with a clean brayer. Choose a background stamp, I used the IndigoBlu Honeycomb Background .

 

 

Don’t attach it to an acrylic block but just use the corner in your hand and place it in to the white paint on the mat……

 

Then repeatedly stamp it over your background until you are happy with it and allow to dry…..

 

 

Then take another kraft tag and stamp the your favourite flower design, I used IndigoBlu Large Poinsettia, twice on the tag coming off the edge using a clear emboss pad or Versamark and then heat emboss with white powder…….

 

 

Then using the white paint and a small brush paint in the poinsettia’s removing any paint that sits on top  of the embossing with a baby wipe……

 

 

When they are dry cut them both out, leave one whole and then cut the other up so that you create a double and a single bud……

 

 

Place them on top of your tag to get your positioning and then remove the bottom one and stick the two top ones in place……

 

 

Using a black fine liner draw in some flowers stems and draw around the head of the flowers…….

 

 

Attach the bottom flower over the top of the stems to the bottom and draw around it…….

 

 

Lastly add some doodling dots and squiggle around the top of the tag, matt on to black card to make it pop and add a ribbon…..

 

 

Well I hope you like my little inspiration for today, it is such an easy thing to have a play with and if you are a little bit shy of using paints it is a good platform to start from.....
